McCalls M5621

Last weekend I made a dress using McCall's pattern M5621. I found the green paisley fabric at the thrift store and the solid blue from my stash. The pattern is very easy except for the neckline. The neck band is not impossible just time consuming with curves, corners and gathers. The dress turned out basically how I expected. It is loose fitting and short. Seriously, loose and short. I was feeling modest and added about a three inch band to the hem. (I am tall so it might not need added length on the average person.) The pattern description describes the dress as slim-fitting. Be aware, slim does not mean tight or close and there is no waist shaping. Check out the finished measurements to decide what size will be best. I don't really mind the loose fit because it's good for summer but I have considered adding waist darts. The shape of the dress is very similar to the photo on the pattern envelope. So really, no surprises.

Overall, I'm happy with the dress. It's very comfortable and easy to wear, perfect for warm summer days.

  2. I was attempting to make a Built By Wendy dress (pattern 3835 http://www.simplicity.com/index.cfm?page=searchResults_C.cfm )and the neck, which is kinda like the one one your dress, drove me insane! I put it down and have not bothered since. Also, it was a bit potato-sacky looking so I think I know what you mean with your dress. Your dress looks much better than my attempt!
