My typewriter, it's a De Luxe. I pulled it out today to work on some greeting cards. It's so much fun. This one is completely manual, not electrified. There are lots of levers and buttons to push and pull that I don't completely understand.
As a kid I remember playing with typewriters. Kids today probably don't play with typewriters very often. They probably don't play with rotary phones either.
So here's the mystery, I discovered there is not a number one key. Why is that? Does anyone know? The lower case "L" looks a lot like a one. Was it standard to use the l for a 1? And another thing, is it still possible to buy typewriter ribbon? I'm rather worried about running out.Later on I'm planning to make some cookies from my favorite Betty Crocker's Cooky Book. This was my favorite cook book as a kid mostly because of the photos. I used to page through the book for probably hours at a time. The front of the book has photos of individual cookies and the back is sprinkled with sets of cookies. The copy I have belonged to my Grandma and my mom has her own copy too. It was re-released in 2002 and I highly recommend it.

What a relic that typewriter is...I remember loving to play with them too! Didn't realize they don't have a number 1? Wonder what's up with that?
ReplyDeleteHave no idea about ribbon...
The cook book looks great!
:)
the "l" was used for the one key. Yes you can buy ribbon but it is not easy to find. I would do a google or ebay search.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with it.
Thanks for the help! That's great to know about the 1.
