Tutorial - How to Cover Wooden Drawers

We all need more storage and little drawers are great for organizing. Here, I show how to transform plain wooden drawers with patterned origami paper. Origami paper is usually packaged already color coordinated so don't be daunted by the task of mixing patterns.
Materials:
Wooden drawers (The ones pictured are versions of the FIRA style from IKEA.)

Origami paper (preferably larger than your smallest drawer)

Glue (I use Aleene's Tacky glue diluted with a touch of water.)

Brush and container for glue (use a cheap brush and plastic cup)

X-acto knife

Self-healing cutting mat (Something to protect your work surface from the knife)Step 1:
Brush a thin layer of glue onto front of drawer. Position paper on front of drawer aligning one corner of the paper with one corner of the drawer. For drawers that are larger than your paper, apply multiple pieces of paper, positioning edges together. Smooth paper gently with a bone folder to smooth out any bubbles.

Step 2:
Place drawer face-down on self-healing cutting mat. With x-acto knife cut off excess paper from sides.

Step 3:
Using x-acto knife cut paper from cut out hole. Use a gentle sawing motion and keep the blade next to the wooden edge of the drawer.

Step 4:

Repeat for all drawers.

For inspiration, here's another wooden IKEA object covered with origami paper. I used squares of red and brown paper to cover this mirror using a decoupage method. So feel free to use more than one paper on each drawer or to use the same paper on all drawers.

Please let me know if you have any questions or if any of the instructions are not clear. I'd be happy to help!
