Using some fabric I thrifted in July, I set out to make an easy wear anywhere summer dress. I've worn my navy pleated neck dress so much that I decided to use Simplicity 2892 again. As before, I made the top into a dress by increasing the length. I also added in-seam pockets. This time around I added a lining because the fabric is quite lightweight. I treated the lining like an underlining, sewing the front and back lining and fabric pieces held together as one.
Back of dressThe fit is very loose. I've only been wearing it with a belt. The other dress I made with this pattern works without a belt I suspect because the dark color contracts, unlike this one.
Front Neck DetailThe yoke is gathered and has a ruffle.
Back Yoke DetailOverall, I'm pleased with the dress, it's very comfortable and easy to wear, just what I had planned. It's been so warm here lately that it feels like fall will never arrive and so I'll just have to wear my many, many summer dresses all year round.
Wow. Really. Wow. The gathered chambray dress is an 80's look that I have not seen anywhere yet, and here it is, updated for today! Well done.

I really want to make this dress, and I was wondering how much fabric did you add to make it into a dress? Same with the Navy Pleated Neck Dress- how much more fabric will I need?
Hi Clare! Just going on memory, it doesn't take much fabric. I think the Navy Pleated was only about a yard, maybe a smidge more. This one is probably a yard and a half because of the yoke. Happy sewing!
