Design-It-Yourself Clothes: Patternmaking Simplified by Cal Patch is a great resource for anyone wanting to design and make their own sewing patterns. The writing style is accessible and easy to understand. I found myself enjoying reading this book.
The first part of the book describes the basics of pattern making and taking body measurements.
The second part of the book shows how to make 5 basic garments: A-line skirt, button down, t-shirt, dress and pants. And it shows how to alter the design of the patterns to make all of the variations shown in photos in the book and above in sketch form.
I really like the photos in the book. They are simple, beautiful and clearly show the garments. The designs of the garments are pretty basic and not too trendy, giving a great base to design your own.
Overall, I really like this book and would recommend it to anyone who wants to break away from purchased patterns and do their own thing.
