DIY Fabric Bound Portfolios

I always have piles of loose papers lying around, cluttering my apartment. I like to save sketches for projects or tear sheets from magazines but I needed a way to corral them all. I used to do a lot of book making projects and a few months got the idea to transform one of those old projects into a set of portfolios.




I cut up the old project, covered the raw edges with strips of interfaced fabric, as if I was binding a quilt and attached ribbons at the edges to keep it all tied up. And in between those seemingly easy steps there was a lot of glue and pressing under heavy books.



A few weeks ago, I received a sample of Glu6 Craft Paste and I immediately thought of this project for a try out. Glu6 is made from recycled styrofoam. How cool is that? The glue is non-toxic and has a pleasant citrusy smell. The glue adheres very well but I did have some problems with it seeping through. You need to spread the glue very lightly to avoid this. I was also told that newer formulations of the glue have fewer issues with seeping. Regardless, I love anything that is eco-friendly and this is even better because it takes what would have been trash and turns it into something useful.
