Do you ever find yourself liking something and then you see it everywhere? That's how I feel about sweaters and distressed jeans right now. They're everywhere and I love them. I had this pair of old jeans that I was getting kind of tired of so I decided to give them a makeover. It was really fun and quick to do. And it's so easy, anyone can do it.
I followed these tips from Say Yes to Hoboken. First, I put the jeans on and drew in chalk where I wanted to create some distress. Then I took off the jeans and went to work. I put the wooden block inside the paints and rubbed with coarse sandpaper. The sandpaper degrades the fabric and little balls of fuzz come off. Rubbing against the edge of the wooden block created a cool effect and was faster than rubbing against the flat surface. I really love the lightweight distress by the pocket shown at the top of the post. It looks so subtle and natural. To create bigger holes I made horizontally cuts with the scissors and then rubbed some more with the sandpaper.
After all that distressing, I washed the jeans to loosen up the threads. I could have gone a lot farther with the distressing but I figure it will fall apart more over time and create a more natural look.
