How to DIY a Dotted Jumpsuit

How freakin' awesome is this jumpsuit? I mean seriously. I would rock this thing all week if I could. The pattern is so summery feeling and the silhouette is bangin but not slutty (haha!).  Between the dramatic print and the fact that it's jumpsuit, you can't be shy in this outfit.

How to DIY a Dotted Jumpsuit

Step 1 Today's inspiration is the Kawena Dot-Print Jumpsuit by Diane Von Furstenberg. The original is made out of silk and probably feels like a dream to wear. The silhouette only reveals the arms but the slim silhouette will still show off your figure.

Step 2 The sewing pattern. McCall's M6083 View E is very similar to our inspiration outfit with the wrap front, gathered waist and cut out hip pockets. This pattern even has a sash included. The only modification you'll need to do is to shorten the shoulders. BurdaStyle B7536 is another wrap front jumpsuit pattern but with narrower shoulders than the McCalls. I actually made McCalls M6083 View D before with some success. Be forewarned jumpsuits are not easy to put on.

Step 3 This fabric is really amazing and I can hardly believe that I found one this similar to our inspiration. The fabric is a border print cotton lycra with a brush stroke dotted design. I would love to try painting a fabric with dye to look like our inspiration photo. All you would need is white fabric, blue and black fabric dye and some squirt bottles for application. Here's another similar fabric that would make a killer jumpsuit.

So, are you going to try your hand at making a jumpsuit this season?

  2. Whoa, get out of my head! I bought that McCall's pattern at a JoAnne's sale a few months back and have since spent way too much time musing over fabric possibilities. Both your suggestions are great! Most definitely inspired.
