Moodboard – Fantasy Getaway

Last week was my first sort of real Spring Break in 10 years. It was lovely and I'm already fantasizing about doing it again in a warmer, more tropical location. Today, I've pulled together the items that I'd like to take on my fantasy vacation, all from Yoox.com. When traveling to a beach or poolside destination you don't need to bring a lot of clothes. Mostly, I want to be comfortable and not too hot. For me that means shorts and dresses. There's nothing easier to pull on than a simple dress or a pair of slouchy shorts. I went with a color palette of light blue and grey with a pop of orange so that everything can mix and match seamlessly. (I really love this color palette by the way. Light blue and coral or two of my all time favorite colors and so nice for summer.)

Besides my silly vacation fantasies, I have something special FOR YOU! An exclusive ShopSense discount code for you to use at Yoox.com. Use the code SHOPSENSE15 and receive a 15% discount and free shipping.

Moodboard – Weather or Not

It rained in Los Angeles last week. I know that doesn't sound like a big deal to most people but this was a pretty big deal for Los Angelenos. It hasn't seriously rained in years. For real – YEARS. There's even a twitter account about it. Given all the weather drama and a weekend spent indoors nursing a cold, I have dressing for the weather on the brain. Here's a collection of sensible yet fun clothing that will keep you warm and dry but also fun and cheerful, despite a torrential downpour.

Top row from left to right: Boots //  Umbrella  //  Backpack  //  Earrings  //  Socks  //  Jeans
Bottom row from left to right: T-shirt  //  Scarf  //  Hat  //  Sweater

Moodboard – What I'm Loving Now

While the rest of the country is doused in a thick layer of snow, Los Angeles stays dry and warm. The days have been sunny with highs in the 80s. As soon as the sun sets, the temperatures drop and I'm reaching for a coat and scarf. (By the way, I'm not complaining one bit!) Thus, my fashion eye is a little wayward these days. I need both light, cool, summery pieces and things to layer and keep me warm. The last few weeks I've been wearing skirts and short sleeves, paired with boots, cardigans and scarves to keep myself warm when needed. Closed toe shoes and a scarf can do a remarkable job of keeping me warm even if my other layers are light.

Lately, I've been fantasizing about what I want to wear (and DIY!) over the next few months. As always, I want to be comfortable but pulled-together and interesting (like those tops up there, aren't they swoon-worthy?). And in case you're wondering about the polka-dot Keds, I have ordered those and they will be delivered to my door shortly. I love the fun print and can't wait to wear them with dresses and skirts as well as jeans and shorts all year long. What's in your fantasy wardrobe right now?

Top Row from left:  Coin Purse  //  Bar Necklace  //  Blue Cut Out Top  //  Booties  //  Scarf
Bottom Row from left:  Sweatshirt (similar jeans here)  //  Striped Maxi Skirt  //  Cropped Top  //  Polka Dot Keds  //  Bow Bracelet  //  Nail Polish  //  Lip Gloss Pencil

DIY Outfit – Zip Back T-shirt

In my moodboard yesterday, I shared my love for a decorative zipper. I love an unexpected back detail almost as much as a cool zipper accent. Today I have another inspirational pick that combines both of these elements. Our inspiration top is super cute and trust me it's super easy to DIY yourself. Read on to see how.

Moodboard – Zippers

Zippers are best known for their utilitarian features. Mainly keepin' your pants up! Can you imagine the days pre-zipper when you would have had to use a row of buttons on your fly. So laborious! All hail the amazing zipper. That said, I'm loving all of the decorative zippers I'm seeing these days. They add a fun and edgy element to just about any clothing item. Here are a few of my faves.

Top Row from left: Orange Sweater  // Moto Skinnies  //  Sweatshirt  // Printed Dress
Bottom Row from left:  Blue Top  //  Clutch  //  Striped Top  //  Sweatshirt  //  Black Dress

What do you like to wear for a casual cool ensemble?

DIY Outfit – Drapey Top and Leggings

I love this casual, cool outfit of a drapey top and patterned leggings. It's easy to wear and super easy to sew yourself. Even better, I've found free patterns so it won't even cost you a lot of money. And that's the best kind of DIY, right?

Moodboard – Edgy Glam

These days, I've been drawn to rather more glamorous accessories than usual. I'm just loving anything gold, shiny and hot pink. But I can't just go totally glam. I have to add a fair does of black and some leather to make it a touch edgy on top of the shiny glam. Here are some of my picks for making your own edgy glam look.

Leggings  //  Boots  //  Collar Necklace  //  Blade Earrings  //  Cage Ring  //  Nail Polish  //  Lace Up Leggings

Moodboard – Classic Bags under $50

The right bag can make or break an outfit which is (partly) why I change out my purse a few times a week. The other reason I choose one bag over another is just how much stuff I need to carry around. So it's always good to have a nice selection in your closet so you can pick just the right one for the occasion. Today I've found a bunch of awesome bags all for under $50 so you can stock up and not break the bank.

Top Row from left: Crossbody Bag  //  Envelope Crossbody  //  Red Crossbody  // Black Hobo
Middle Row: Camel Tote  // Vegan Saddle Bag  //  Red Messenger Bag
Bottom Row: Grey Tote  //  Mini Duffle  //  Reverse Denim Tote

Moodboard – Pajamas

What one wears to bed is kind of a personal thing. Unless you're living in a dorm, only your nearest and dearest know what you wear for slumber time. For me, my night time wear changes with the season – more in winter, less in summer. These days, the nights have been colder and I'm sleeping in long sleeves and pants under a big pile of blankets. But when summer rolls around, it will be a tank top and sleep shorts for me. Before I tuck in for the night I put on big thick socks (my feet get cold easily) and slather myself in super-hydrating cream (the Burt's Bees shown above is the thickest I've ever tried - I love it!). What do you like to wear to bed and how do you get ready to go to sleep?

Shown above Top row: Tank  //  Night Sweater  //  Slippers  //  Sleep Mask  //  Dot Shorts
Bottom row: Pajama Pants  //  Socks  //  Shorts  //  Night Cream  //  Robe

These days all I want to do is cuddle up with a blanket, a hot cup of tea and some knitting. So of course, I have sweatshirts and leggings making a heavy rotation in my fantasy wardrobe. If only I didn't have to go to work 5 days out of 7, I would probably dress in cozy knits all the time. Follow my Pretty Clothes board on Pinterest for even more cozy wardrobe inspiration.

Moodboard – Classic Grey

I'm sure a lot of people think grey is a boring, blah color but it is my longtime favorite neutral. Forget white. Forget black. Grey is my fave. And while we're on the topic of grey. I much prefer the spelling "grey" to "gray". It just looks more elegant with an "e". Getting back to the fashion, here are a few classic grey pieces that would enhance any wardrobe.
