DIY Outfit – Zip Back T-shirt

In my moodboard yesterday, I shared my love for a decorative zipper. I love an unexpected back detail almost as much as a cool zipper accent. Today I have another inspirational pick that combines both of these elements. Our inspiration top is super cute and trust me it's super easy to DIY yourself. Read on to see how.

How to DIY a Zip Back T-Shirt

Step 1: The casual, nautical cool of the Genoa Striped Top from Anthropologie is the perfect inspiration for a fun and easy DIY. It looks like a basic striped top but turn around and wham, bam you have a neon yellow zipper saying "How do you do?".

Step 2:  To make your t-shirt use a pattern such as Simplicity 1805 or use a pre-made shirt. You could also use the free Tessuti Mandy Top (see my version here) and just make the sleeves more of a bell shape. To add the zipper, add a seam to the center back, finish and fold in the raw edges and attach your zipper running all the way from top to bottom.

Step 3: For your fabric, use a basic striped knit like this one from Mood. For the zipper, a contrasting color is a must. Here's a sweet lime colored one.

Tune back in tomorrow to see my re-fashioned version of this top!
