How to DIY a Gold Stripe Dress

This body conscious gold striped dress would be so simple and fun to make, not to mention fun to wear. It's the perfect dress to wear out for a summer night on the town, soaking up the late summer sun, maybe enjoying a glass a sangria and a platter of paella.

How to DIY a Gold Stripe Dress

Step 1 Today's inspiration is the ASOS Midi Lace Dress. The dress has a simple round neckline, low scoop back, elbow length sleeves and just below knee length hem.

Step 2 Simplicity 2054, view B is a basic pattern, made for knit fabrics. To completely match our inspiration, you'll want to cut it small and add a scoop to the back.

Step 3 For the fabric, you'll need a stretch knit lace, stretch knit lining and gold fabric paint. To make the stripes, simply tape off the lace fabric and paint stripes onto the fabric. Let dry, set the paint and cut out your pattern pieces. If you take a look at fabric closeup on our inspiration dress, you'll see that the stripes look like they're painted on. The lace fabric is a little sheer, so you'll want to use an underlining of plain white stretch knit fabric.

I think this would be such a fun project to try making and definitely fun to wear. Perfect for a night on the town or by the beach.

  1. This is a great idea! I actually have some navy and white printed stretch lace which would be perfect for this! I've recently found your blog and am really enjoying it, particularly your moodboards and the corresponding diy's! They're fabulous! Thankyou, Sarah
