When I first started sewing, I was often drawn to the calicos and the quilting fabrics. In fact I still have loads of them in my fabric stash. I still love them today but tend to avoid them when making clothes for myself. I just don't find a lot of opportunity for wearing something so sweet. But children can get away with such cuteness, which is why it is so fun to shop and sew for them. Today's DIY inspiration is a sweet little calico dress perfect for Fall.
How to DIY a Girl's Dress
Step 1 Our inspiration is this sweet calico dress from Caramel Baby & Child. I love the simple shape and classic fabric.
Step 2 The dress has a simple design, loosely fit with long sleeves and front pockets. It's very similar to Burda Style 09/2013 #147.
Step 3 The fabric is a classic dark colored floral calico similar to this one from Fabric.com. Also similar to this one.
