Kids Gift Guide and a Giveaway from Target

Target is a great place to find gifts for all the kids on your list from toddlers to teens. They have everything from toys and clothes for the baby to cool accessories for teens. I love that I can go to one place to buy gifts for all my nieces and nephews, who range in age from 2 to 20, plus I can find great holiday decor and all the special holiday food treats. Read on for more gifting inspiration and a giveaway!

DIY Girls Dress

I made this cute tie-strap dress for my niece for her second birthday. This was the first time she's really enjoyed opening her presents and it was such fun to watch. She even asked to try on the dress right away. :) The dress consists of just a tube of fabric gathered at the top with elastic and ties at the top. I loosely based the pattern on a girls dress in the book Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross. Instead of using elastic thread I topstitched over three rows of 1/4 inch wide elastic.

DIY Outfit – Calico Girl's Dress

When I first started sewing, I was often drawn to the calicos and the quilting fabrics. In fact I still have loads of them in my fabric stash. I still love them today but tend to avoid them when making clothes for myself. I just don't find a lot of opportunity for wearing something so sweet. But children can get away with such cuteness, which is why it is so fun to shop and sew for them. Today's DIY inspiration is a sweet little calico dress perfect for Fall.

Moodboard – Cool Kids Clothing

DIY Softies – Whale Family

The other day I was cleaning out my fabric closet (yes, I have that much fabric and no, I'm not done yet) and I found the bottom legs from some old jeans that became cut offs. I had recently seen Sah-Rah's denim whale softie and just had to make some of my own. In fact I made a whole family of them.

Moodboard – Gifts for Kids

Lately I've been going to a lot of baby showers and kid birthday parties. (And making a few things too. Come back later this week for the DIY's.) It's always fun to shop for baby and kid things. The cuteness of it all is so delightful. Here are a few of my favorites from around the web.
