How to DIY a Geo-Print Dolman Dress

Continuing this week's theme of geometric prints, today I'm going to show you how to DIY a gorgeous geometric print dolman dress. I love wearing dresses, especially in the summer because they are just so easy to throw on and go. All you need is the dress, shoes and accessories and you're ready to go. Add a belt if you need shape and a jacket or cardi for warmth.
How to DIY a Geometric Print Maxi Dress

Step 1 Our inspiration outfit is the Saloni Lara Dolman Dress. This dress could easily be dressed up for work or down for beach weekends. It has plenty of arm, chest and leg coverage but the slim fit is really flattering and sexy.

Step 2 This dress is a long sleeve dolman style with a high neckline and straight skirt. For the sewing pattern, I chose McCall's M6653, view B which is actually a top. But not to worry! You can easily convert this top pattern to a dress. So get your tape measure and some tracing paper and get to altering. First, extend the hem down long to hit you mid calf. Next determine where on the dress your hips will be. If needed, widen the dress at the hips so you have about 1 to 2 inches of ease (this is a knit dress so if you want it tight, you can even make a negative ease). Lastly, if you want the V-shaped back like in the inspiration dress, draw a new back neckline. Just determine how deep you want it to go, mark the spot at the center back and draw the new lines.

Step 3 It was hard to find a triangle print knit fabric but this chevron print has the same vibe and would look great as a dress.
