Yesterday I shared a moodboard full of pencil skirts and sweaters. An outfit that I think might become my new go to this winter. I particularly love this outfit from Madewell with the boxy sweater top and basic pencil skirt. These basic shapes would be very easy to DIY. It's just the kind of thing that I want to fill my closet with season after season.
How to DIY a Pencil Skirt and Boxy Top
Step 1 This classic sweater and skirt combo can be dressed up with a sparkly necklace and heels or dressed down with flats and a scarf.
Step 2 For the top I would use Simplicity 2863, View C and just leave the sleeves un-cuffed. For the skirt, I'd try out Burda Style 3/2011 Pencil Skirt #122. It's a great basic design.
Step 3 For the top, I'd use a sweater fabric like this one from Mood and for the skirt a basic melton wool like this one from Fabric.com.
